In 1981 Jim Gatacre, motivated by his own disability & subsequent recovery through Scuba, founded the Handicapped Scuba Association. Working with undwerwater educators from PADI & NAUI, HSA Performance Requirements & Multilevel Certifications were developed .HSA has been an independent Certifying Agency for 25 years Training & Certifying more than 7500 Open Water Scuba Divers, Dive Buddies, Instructors & Course Directors in over 40 countries.


With Jean-Michel Cousteau, the HSA created 2 films, Freedom In Depth & To Fly in Freedom.


HSA Instructors & Dive Buddies, supported by the Wounded Warriors Project, have opened up a new world to hundreds of Veterans!
