From the moment he locked eyes with a shark, COARE’s founder, Christopher Chin has advocated for shark protection and ocean conservation. COARE has a proven track record as the international leader in ocean diplomacy at the United Nations. There, they lead NGOs in driving systemic change for the health of our people and planet. In recent years, COARE’s primary focus has been on the development of a global plastics treaty to protect human, animal, and environmental health. International policy and local efforts are interdependent. In addition to global ocean conservation policy and diplomacy, COARE remains deeply connected to the dive community. Christopher will share knowledge of plastic pollution and how it may be reduced by COARE’s Green Divers for Blue Oceans initiative. This program encourages divers and the dive industry to recognize and embrace sustainable practices, including the reduction of single-use plastics at every level across the dive industry. The entire dive industry depends on the health of our ocean, and COARE is tirelessly devoted to its conservation. COARE’s efforts help to protect not only the beauty and diversity divers seek, but also the health and longevity of people and the planet. Visit coare.org to join this important work.
