What to expect

You will be picked up by a naturalist, English-speaking guide in a private vehicle at your Guanacaste Beach hotel* for a day of pure Costa Rican natural wonders. After an easy drive that takes you along the outskirts of Liberia, the capital city of Guanacaste, you will be greeted by rolling hills and wide-open spaces. You will enjoy a wonderful short hike that takes you to the pool where the wide, stunning Llanos de Cortez spills into a refreshingly large pool. You will definitely want to take photos at this gorgeous spot!

Stop along the way to relax, stretch and enjoy a delicious, typical “Tico” lunch, served hot with a refreshing fruit drink.

From here you will continue north on the Pan American highway and into the dense, lush hills that are home to sloths, monkeys.  Blue Jean dart frogs and other colorful frogs like to hang out near the river banks, and you and your guide will have ample time to search for these natural wonders because this unspoiled area is filled with wildlife, birds, and plants.

What to expect:

Begin your day with a stop at the edge of the Corobici River where you will meet your rafting guides. Then you will hop in vehicles for your trek across the plains to the river put-in point. Once you arrive, you and the guides will carry the gear down to the river’s bank where you will gear up and practice rafting skills your guide will teach you so you will understand his commands and know when to paddle and which direction, and when to rest – and, of course, how to high-five your fellow rafters with your paddle!

You will take a short break mid-way down the river to enjoy some fresh pineapple and a cool drink of water before getting back to the fun.  After you finish the tour, you will help your guides haul the paddles and life vests up to the awaiting vehicles ready to take you back to the restaurant overlooking the Corobici River.

Change into dry clothing before sitting down to a relaxing and delicious typical, hot meal. Enjoy the sights and of the bubbling water of the Rio Corobici. Lunch includes a fruit beverage, but alcoholic beverages are available for purchase.  Stop by the gift shop if you like before heading back to your hotel.

What to expect:

Once at the meeting point at the beach you will board skiffs that take you to the Catamaran and once onboard you will be given a short safety briefing. After you are underway, you will sail along enjoying the gentle breezes.  Snorkeling equipment is provided and guests are given an hour or so to swim among the rocky reefs looking for colorful fish and rays.

While you are enjoying the sights, the crew prepares a light lunch that includes items like BBQ chicken or pasta salad, fresh fruit plates, chips (Doritos, Cheetos, Tostitos, and Ruffles), dips (fresh homemade guacamole and pico de gallo salsa) and even some fresh baked cookies!

An open bar is offered during the duration of the tour.
Refreshments include:

Following lunch, we pull anchor, raise the sails and casually sail across the bay. On the afternoon tour, you will anchor in a pristine location as the sun nears the horizon and the sky explodes into a multitude of colors.  Guests will disembark just as the sun sinks below the horizon, boarding the skiff that will take you to the awaiting ground transport to your hotel.

What to expect:

After being picked up at your hotel, your scenic drive to the Tempisque river will take you through towns with familiar names – Los Ángeles, Filadelfia, Santa Cruz – and past verdant papaya and melon fields.

A quick stop is made for a bathroom break and bottled beverages may be purchased to take on the boat with you before you embark on the Tempisque River trip.

An expert naturalist guide will explain all the facets of the park, a great oasis on the Guanacaste plains. The best bird watching for aquatic species is found right here, as the park is favored by migratory birds escaping the cold winters in North and South America. Look closely for the kingfishers, snowy egret, blue heron, and broad-billed heron as they are nocturnal and sleep in the bushes along the river bank. You may even see a few nesting scarlet macaws.

Listen for the howler monkeys and resident white-faced capuchin monkey as the boat captain puts you up close to the action. Crocodiles slide into the water with a splash or duck just below the surface as the boat approaches, and several varieties of bats hug the trunks of massive trees.
