Submission Deadline: May 4, 2021

NTP Events is requesting proposals for DEMA-Sponsored Education Sessions.  NTP Events has been contracted by The Diving Equipment & Marketing Association (DEMA) to manage the DEMA-Sponsored educational component of the Show.

Event: DEMA Show 2021, Tuesday, November 16 - Friday, November 19, Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, NV.

The annual DEMA Show, the largest in-person trade-only event in the world for companies doing business in the scuba diving, ocean water sports, and adventure/dive travel industries, attracts hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of dive and travel industry professionals from around the world. DEMA Show provides an event designed for attendees and exhibitors to conduct business, network, and participate in educational and training sessions. DEMA Show is produced by DEMA, The Diving Equipment, and Marketing Association.

Now in 2021 DEMA will also produce online professional development sessions for its members and show attendees. The audience for online professional development is potentially larger than the in-person sessions. DEMA anticipates that online sessions will be pre-recorded, with live-moderated questions-and-answer periods following the scheduled, initial broadcast of the pre-recorded session. Sessions will thereafter be available on demand and will include the questions-and-answer periods, recorded the time of initial broadcast.

Deadline for Submissions: Please complete the online speaker application by Tuesday, May 4, 2021. Only speakers utilizing the online speaker application will be given consideration.  

Decision Date: Speakers will be notified no later than June 30, 2021

Pre-Show Marketing Articles: Contracted speakers will be asked to provide two educational articles of approximately 500 words for inclusion in the Association's email newsletter, DEMAIL. Articles should relate to speaker content and will be used to promote DEMA Show sessions.

Pre-Show Online Professional Development Sessions: Scheduled to be broadcast with live Q&A each Tuesday and Wednesday at 10:00 AM Pacific time, starting on October 5, 2021. One pre-recorded/live Q&A session will be broadcast each day. Online education sessions should not exceed 45 minutes INCLUDING questions and answers.

Projected Attendance per Seminar: 55 – 100

Main Targeted Audience: Dive Industry retailers, store staff, diving instructors and support staff. Attendees have a variety of retail, marketing, social media, and other experience. Sessions should be aimed at small retail business owners and operators, and preference will be given to those that incorporate recreational diving business in their proposals. Sessions should be sufficiently detailed to allow the attendee to implement your topic and idea when they return to their business.

Important Information for Presenters (please read)

  • Proposed session abstracts must be submitted using the online application in order to be considered. 
  • As a non-profit organization, DEMA is limited in the honorariums and travel expenses that may be considered. Please note: DEMA does not cover incidental charges.
  • Speakers are encouraged to submit multiple abstracts covering different topics. Speakers presenting more than one session are viewed favorably as a cost-effective option.
  • Individual sessions are not repeated.
  • DEMA will record your session for posting on DEMA's websites for member access. 

Prior to submitting your abstracts please review the DEMA Show Presenter Policies. By submitting your abstract, you are confirming that you comply with the outlined policies, which is part of the legally binding Speaker Contract.

In connection with presentations made during or in connection with DEMA Show 2021, speaker grants DEMA and/or its agents and contractors the exclusive rights to make an audio, video or any other type of recording now known or hereafter developed of the presentation and to transcribe the presentation and hereby grants DEMA the exclusive rights to sell or otherwise distribute such recording or transcriptions in print, audio, video, and other communications media by reproduction and sale or other distribution by any and all means now known or hereafter developed.  On request, DEMA will provide speaker one copy of any such recording and/or transcripts.

Prior to submitting an abstract to be considered as a speaker for DEMA Show 2021, it is imperative to understand DEMA's professional audience and current programs.

The Diving Equipment & Marketing Association is the non-profit trade association for the recreational diving industry. Monies earned through the industry's participation in the annual DEMA Trade Show, along with sponsorships, and DEMA Memberships, fund all the activities and expenses of the association. Unlike for-profit organizations which typically raise money at trade or consumer shows or events and funnel it AWAY from the diving industry, DEMA channels proceeds earned TOWARD the diving industry, including market and industry research, legislative issues, disaster assistance, marketing, and PR programs, and other industry initiatives, all for the benefit of DEMA members.

DEMA has Members in five different industry-specific stakeholder categories as well as associated members (businesses whose income is not primarily derived from doing business in the diving industry), including:

  • Manufacturers, Distributors and Sales Representatives of Dive Equipment Manufacturers or Distributors
  • Diver Certification and Training Agencies, and Field/Sales Representatives of Training Organizations
  • Dive Publishing, Media, Dive Industry Consulting, Associations & Non-Retail Service Providers
  • Retail Distribution of Diving Goods & Services
  • Dive Travel or Resorts

DEMA has conducted extensive marketing research to understand the optimal active diving consumer with the goal of obtaining similar new customers. Active divers are typically affluent, willing and able to travel to dive and make equipment and travel purchases.  The average participant is about 30, and 80% of these households have three or more persons living under one roof. DEMA also understands the need for bringing in both adults and teens living in the household to help grow the industry for the future. Both traveling to dive and diving locally are critical to the growth of the sport.

DEMA has advertised nationally in the U.S. to the potential diving audience, primarily using social media. To target the correct audience DEMA has conducted demographic/psychographic research and makes this information available for the use of its members. DEMA also makes free advertising materials available to Members. The consumer marketing program is called Go Dive Now and includes ad templates and videos designed by a professional marketing firm and provided for Member use. For the consumer and Member, hosts a Local Dive Store Finder to help consumers locate a close-by retailer, as well as a Dive Vacation Finder to help divers find a desirable dive location. DEMA Members and those using the Go Dive Now ad materials are provided with upgraded listings on the Dive Store Finder.

Speakers who can integrate DEMA's Current Programs and Initiatives in their topic and learning objectives, including Go Dive Now, are preferred.

You are invited to submit one or more educational proposals for DEMA Show 2021. 

In order to be considered as a speaker, your submission must include the first five ITEMS:

  1. A session description;
  2. An outline of your presentation;
  3. Two references who have asked/hired you to speak/conduct a seminar for their organization
  4. A list (bullet format) of 2-4 learning outcomes/educational objectives – Please specifically answer the question, “What will the audience be able to do after the session?”
  5. A description of how you will interact and engage with the audience to improve retention and participation.
  6. Those submitting a video link to a previous presentation, even on a different topic, will be given additional consideration.

Below is a list of suggested topics.  Both BASIC and ADVANCED versions of these topics are needed, and special consideration is given to advanced topics surrounding analytics and social media usage for retailers.  DEMA’s audience includes new and younger professionals who are native users of social media and online business operations.  Speakers are welcome to propose topics not on the list, but topics listed herein are given priority consideration:
