  • Family Summer Vacation In Costa Rica and 10 best ways to enjoy.

Costa Rica is a natural beauty: its coastline looks out on to two oceans with over 1250 miles of beaches which 780 miles are on the Pacific Ocean and between these oceans are 32 national parks, over 60 volcanoes, 15 wildlife refuges and hundreds of protected reserves but don't let all this information overwhelm you, Bill Beard's experts are here to help you get the vacation you have always dreamed about with no down time and the lowest possible price. However we do travel at your pace, just tell us what it is. Our office is in La Fortuna, Costa Rica, we are open 7 days a week and you will have our 24 hour contact number.

    Boat Tour & Wildlife Observation

For a small country – it's about the same size as West Virginia– Costa Rica crams in extraordinary biodiversity. Costa Rica accounts for only 0.03 percent of the earth's surface (has only 51.100km2). However it contains nearly 6 percent of the world's biodiversity. Its natural wealth, both in species and ecosystems, is partly explained by its geographical position. Bill Beard's packages and tours are ideal for first-time visitors who want to sample the country’s highlights without any fuss, taking in the Manuel Antonio National Park, which boasts gorgeous beaches as well as protected forests – home to sloths, pelicans, white-faced monkeys and anteaters – the dreamily beautiful Monteverde Cloud Forest, and the Arenal Volcano in La Fortuna, one of Costa Rica’s most picturesque. We can add easy hikes en route, a boat ride, and extra excursions including white water rafting, zip lining, waterfall rappelling, sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, horse back riding. and MUCH MORE.

    Manuel Antonio National Park
    Ideas For Fly and drive

Even though we do recommend that you use our transportation with an English speaking naturalist guides we will arrange a rental car if you want more adventure but we do suggest that you don't drive st night. Costa Rica’s roads are safer, more scenic and quieter than those of its neighbors and having four wheel drives opens up un-touristy towns and villages. You can drive to Caño Blanco to catch a boat to Tortuguero National Park (to which there is no road access) to see caiman, iguanas, river turtles and more than 320 species of birds including toucans and parrots. Next come cacao-growing areas and a stunning drive up to the Monteverde cloud forest, to see more flora and fauna and perhaps take a ride on a zip line. A journey north on the Pan-American Highway may conclude at the Rincón de La Vieja National Park, set around an active volcano, and surrounded by lush cattle-raising cowboy country. Bill Beard's will be happy to make all the arrangements for your tours and accommodations. Here are some more tips & roadside signs you need: LEARN MORE

    Tortuguero National Park

Parque Nacional Tortuguero is a protected wilderness area on Costa Rica's northern Caribbean coast. Its beaches are famous nesting grounds for sea turtles, including endangered green turtles. The park's freshwater creeks and lagoons, which can be navigated by boat or canoe, shelter caimans and river turtles. The surrounding dense rainforest is also rich with wildlife, from monkeys to many bird species. One of Costa Rica's most popular ecotourism destinations, the canals, rivers, beaches and lagoons of Tortuguero National Park are a study of Rainforest, freshwater and marine biology. The park and small town of Tortuguero are accessible by boat or small aircraft. When people think of Rainforest, the first thing that automatically comes to their minds is Tortuguero. You will need boat transportation, accommodations and tour reservations and we will make them for you. LEARN MORE

    Surf and swim

Learn to surf in Costa Rica with Bill Beard'sIt’s not only sloths who get to chill in Costa Rica. While many beaches are framed by jungles and wild-looking landscapes, they can still be used for the usual beach stuff: sunbathing, swimming, sport fishing, surfing, snorkelling and scuba diving. The Nicoya Peninsula is physically separate from most of the country and its balmy blue waters are a fixture on the American surf itinerary. Dirt roads are motorbike-friendly and it’s easy to move between hip Malpais and Santa Teresa and arty Manzanillo. Hotels run the gamut from ultra-exclusive boutique pads and full-service resorts to surf shacks and house lets. The food in Nicoya is probably the best in the country, with some swanky poolside restaurants around Santa Teresa. Nicoya is also considered a "blue area" with many residents over the century mark. Learn To Surf In Tamarindo

    Nicoya Peninsula

Ostional olive ridely turtles with Bill Beard'sThe Nicoya Peninsula is on Costa Rica's Pacific coast. It comprises northern Guanacaste Province and southern Puntarenas Province. The area's surf beaches include Playa Santa Teresa and Playa Mal País in the south, and Playa Grande, in Las Baulas National Marine Park, in the north. Leatherback turtles nest and hatch at Playa Grande. Olive ridley turtles arrive farther south at Ostional National Wildlife Refuge. Nicoya is known as a "Blue Zone: We have obtained information from Nicoya, Costa Rica on ways to live longer and be happier. This information has been translated into lessons that can be implemented into your everyday life. Have a plan de vida. Successful centenarians have a strong sense of purpose. They feel needed and want to contribute to a greater good. Drink hard water. Nicoyan water has the country’s highest calcium content, perhaps explaining the lower rates of heart disease, as well as stronger bones and fewer hip fractures.

    Birds and butterflies
Blue Morpho Butterfly in Costa Rica eith Bill Beard'sMost travelers tick off a few dozen birds and butterflies, perhaps a mammal or two. But Bill Beard's birding tour is aimed at those who are serious about their binocular-usage and committed to full pro “twitcher” khaki get-up and to pre-dawn getting up, too. Taking in the tropical forests of the Carara National Park on the Pacific coast, the wetlands of the La Ensenada Wildlife Reserve and Monteverde, the guided group will expect to spot wonders such as the emerald toucanet, the long-tailed silky flycatcher and a vast array of hummingbirds, trogons, woodcreepers, manakins, tanagers and other species. The high point for many is a sighting of the resplendent quetzal, probably one of the most beautiful birds in the world.

The resplendent quetzel, arguably the most beautiful bird in the world.

Resplendent Quetzal at Monteverde Costa RicaMonteverde Cloud Forest Preserve

Monteverde is a town in mountainous northwestern Costa Rica. It’s renowned for its biodiverse forests in the clouds. The famous Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve shelters countless wildlife species, including jaguars, ocelots and the colorfully plumed resplendent quetzal. The reserve’s marked trails cut through ferns and orchids, and way overhead, suspended bridges allow walks above the forest canopy. As Central America’s most adventure-focused destination, Costa Rica has become a favorite with younger generations. A very enjoyable experience in the area is to travel between Monteverde and Arenal Volcano by boat across Lake Arenal with spectacular views of the volcano: LEARN MORE

Tempisque River - Palo Verde Wildlife Observation Tour:

The  Tempisque Palo Verde River Wildlife Boat Tour will take you to the entrance of the Palo Verde National Park.  The best bird watching for aquatic species is found right here, as the park is favored by many migratory birds as they escape the cold winters in North and South America. The area’s density gives it a rich mix of mammal, amphibian and reptile life, including many crocodiles, howler & white faced capuchin monkeys and scarlet macaws. The lowlands and marshes create the perfect conditions for the largest concentration of waterfowl and wadding birds in all of Central America. This is a bird watchers paradise as well as a perfect spot to see lots of crocodiles.

After the scenic drive you will board motorized river canal boats and cruise the Tempisque River and the Palo Verde River where the two rivers converge. Experienced River Boat Guides will stop to get you close to animals, birds, and crocodiles.Watch as crocodiles slide in from the banks and glide through the water, see many varieties of birds, and look for monkeys, bats, and other wildlife.Costa Rica’s teeming biodiversity can leave even seasoned fans of flora & fauna feeling a bit dizzy. and one of the solutions for that is to visit the La Paz Waterfall Gardens – site of the world’s largest butterfly gardens, wildlife, trout pond, beautiful hiking trails, five waterfalls and the most beautiful and unusual accommodations, with spectacular views that you could possibly imagine.

    Families and other fauna

Costa Rica is great for the best kind of family holiday – that is, one that incorporates lots of outdoor fun, a bit of eco-minded education and some memorable encounters with wildlife.   Bill Beard's is unlimited in what we can have in your itinerary throughout the entire country. Waves, Whales and Waterfalls, humpback whale-watching, a river trip aboard a boat on the Rio Tempesque, hiking at the foot of the Arenal volcano and enjoying the world famous hot springs, a canopy tour and ziplining through the rainforest and some beach time at the Manuel Antonio National Park. You will see monkeys, sloths and iguanas, as well as lots of hundreds of birds. Costa Rica has 967 species and the list of things you can do and see just goes on and on

    Poas Volcano -

This is a highly accessible national park, and you can follow a paved road to the wheelchair accessible visitor's center near the top. The visitor center has information about the history of the volcano and current information about the geomorphic processes that shaped the ecological attraction. Other amenities include a cafe, restroom facilities, and a very informative museum.

Walking just 15 minutes from the visitor's center, the main crater offers a spectacular view. At almost a mile (1.6 km) in diameter, the crater's rain-fed sulfuric pool still bubbles and emits smoke into the air. The last major eruption was in 1917 and that was the first one since 1910. visitors can still see geysers explode into the air up to 820 ft (250 m) high. Chances of getting wet are pretty remote as the crater descends almost 1,000 ft (300 m) and is one of the largest active volcanoes in the world.

Standing on the rim, visitors often smell the sulfur in the air, which at times has proven to be acidic enough for the park to close. It is from this crater that the effects of acid rain can be seen on the vegetation surrounding the landscape. Around the huge main-crater is the beautifully blue-green colored Botos Lake (Laguna Botos) and on the opposite side, the von Frantzius cone.

Costa Rica Dive, Surf & Rainforest Package

Day 1 (Arrival / Liberia Airport):  Fly into Liberia* International Airport (flight not included). Private transfer with our meet-and-greet service to Tamarindo Diria Beach Hotel where your vacation will begin. Relax near the pool or on provided beach chaise lounges. Drink an Imperial or some of the local Anejo rum at the hotel bar or get a bite to eat at the hotel restaurant. If you didn't bring your board, it would be a great time to pick up a rental so you can surf the early morning waves. The sun rises early in Costa Rica!  If you are diving, Call the dive shop the day you arrive and make arrangements for any rental gear you may need or special requests or general information you want them to have. (No Meals included this day)
*If you fly into San Jose we can still arrange transfers, but it is almost four hours to resort, and there will be an additional expense.

Days 2-3: Enjoy a little breakfast before you get ready to go diving.  You will be picked up for a 2-tank boat dive trip at the exciting Catalina Islands. It is around 35 minutes drive from Tamarindo beach to Flamingo where you will meet the dive boat. Boat returns around 12:30, so after your drive back from Flamingo, you will have plenty of time to hit the waves after some lunch or a siesta on the beach! In the evening the town of Tamarindo is a happening spot. Here you will find an eclectic mix of people, shops and things to do. Mingle with the locals and other tourists. (B)

Day 4 Today you will hop on your ATV and head SOUTH. A local guide will take you to surf haunts and show you waves you wouldn't find on your own on this 7 hour trek. Take some money with you to enjoy some lunch mid-day. You will be ready for a cold cerveza by the time you get back to Tamarindo today. That's okay, vacations are supposed to be filled to the max! (B)

Day 5  Okay, time to fire up the ATV again, but this morning you are headed NORTH. Your local surf guide will  turn you on to some new waves. This trip is a four-hour excursion so make the waves as soon as you get there and enjoy all the action. You still might have time to ride a wave or two in Tamarindo in front of the hotel at the end of the day and pack up for your trip to Arenal and the lush green landscape of the rainforest that awaits.  Look how much incredible waves you've been able to hit in only two day surfing in Costa Rica! (B)

Day 6 (Departure): Today, you travel overland to Arenal Volcano. The van will stop along the way where you can purchase snacks or a meal and beverage. Be sure to have your camera ready, there are often Scarlet Macaws flying around and roosting in the trees at this spot.  Tonight you will be picked up at 5:45 pm and dropped off at Tabacon where you will enjoy a buffet dinner and relax in the thermal waters of the world famous Tabacon Hot Springs & Spa. Van will return to pick you up at 10 pm unless you make other arrangements. (B,D)

Day 7 Check out from your Arenal hotel.  Make sure to pack a small backpack with a change of clothes and any items you might want easily accessible for the drive to San Jose after lunch. Your rafting guides will provide commentary about the country and point out fields of papaya, yucca and other local crops. After you arrive at the bank of the river where the rafts are "put in" you will receive instructions from your river guides and meet the safety kayaker. The rafting team's driver will stay with your luggage and other items.  After a bit of time to practice the rafting commands, your guide will push off and soon you will be navigating the Class II - III white water rapids.  You will take a break to enjoy fresh fruits and water before taking off again.  Once your trip is over, you will change and have a delicious hot typical lunch.  A van will meet you at the lunch spot and take you on to San Jose. Dinner is on your own tonight.  Overnight in San Jose at Best Western Irazu -- a virtual oasis in the midst of bustling San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. (B, L)

Day 8 Enjoy a light breakfast and then arrange for a taxi or the hotel's airport shuttle to take you to the San Jose airport for your trip home. (B)
You should be checked out and ready to leave your hotel three and 1/2 hours before your scheduled flight. You won’t soon forget your guides or all of your wonderful experiences in Costa Rica.  Pura Vida!

The hotel has a restaurant and bar, swimming pools, and much more. Check out more about Tamarindo Diria.

  • Because of its compact geography, everyone in Costa Rica is presented with a cornucopia of choices. The biggest challenge in Costa Rica is trying to decide which combination is best for your vacation. This is where Bill Beard’s Costa Rica Adventure Travel comes in. We have been in Costa Rica since 1970 and know the country well enabling us to provide our clients with the best that Costa Rica has to offer. Our goal is to help you share in the wonders of nature and enjoy every minute of your vacation. Our commitment to quality and personalized service is unsurpassed. All of our Bill Beard’s Choice Tour packages are privately escorted in a modern, air-conditioned vehicle by one of our English speaking, Costa Rican naturalist guides traveling at your pace. We also offer non-private tours for vacations that are affordable for all budgets. Invariably, when we ask our clients what one thing stands out most about their vacation, the reply is “the guide.” Guides take the hassle out of travel. They provide education, insight into the host culture, and in many cases a lifetime friendship. Our Costa Rican staff all have many years experience in the industry. Our association includes the best hotels, resorts and restaurants available. We have Costa Rica’s most knowledgeable, experienced operators, instructors and guides with proven track records providing you with the safest and best vacation possible. However, if you are on a budget, we also offer non-privately escorted tours where you combine with a variety of other customers and travel at a predetermined pace. We can adapt any package for self-drive if you prefer the freedom of having a car available for further exploration.

Since 1970 we have had thousands of clients visit Costa Rica and most of them have remained our friends and many have returned several times. This is what makes this the most enjoyable business we could ever imagine. We always recommend our meet-and-greet transfer service. If you have ever been in a foreign country and lost your luggage, passport, money, had an emergency, or any one of a multitude of unpleasant situations, then you know the value of having a bilingual guide meeting you at the airport. We are a full-service tour operator and are licensed and insured.

Our reservation office is located in La Fortuna, Costa Rica and all of our agents are scuba divers and adventurers. They have all traveled extensively throughout Costa Rica and have experienced all of our tours and activities. We constantly check all of the hotels, resorts, restaurants and rest stops that we use to make sure they maintain our standards for client satisfaction.

Our goal is to continue providing first class service to our clients for a memorable vacation and a desire to return. Our service is second to none, worldwide. If you are planning a trip to Costa Rica it will be our pleasure to give you an itinerary so you can compare prices to make sure you are not paying too much or getting too little for your vacation dollar.

All activities we offer may be combined and customized to suit your needs and maximize your vacation time. We can make all the arrangements for your air and ground transportation, accommodations, and activities.

It’s the attention to detail that defines us. Thank you for choosing us to be a part of your memorable vacation to Costa Rica.
