 Press Releases

  • On Monday 5th October 2020, Master Liveaboards was pleased to announce they were returning with several of their scheduled Scuba diving liveaboard trips.  Like many others in the travel industry, the global lockdown had forced them to cease operations for an indefinite amount of time.

It was momentous news which was welcome not only by their staff and crew but guests alike.  The period during lockdown had been a busy one for the crew members and staff, who took the opportunity to make significant improvements to the liveaboard vessels.  It was not only upgrades and refurbishments which had been installed on the vessels, but the team also had to implement rigorous changes prior to being assessed in order to become successfully certified for COVID-19 safety regulations, set out by the associated Government bodies.

Thailand was the first destination which started operating scheduled trips, with there being a large local community.  The vessels, staff and operating procedures had been carefully changed to ensure the safety of the guests and crew members.  With the COVID-19 safety measures in place, they were able to enjoy some fantastic trips with The Junk and The Phinisi.  The trips in Thailand were 4 nights of spectacular diving, incredible sunsets and delicious meals.  All the guests also took part in a beach clean as part of their Going Green project and everyone had a fantastic time!

The Galapagos Islands were next to follow suit with the Galapagos Master having

successfully passed the COVID-19 certified safety measures and regulations.  After several successful trips the boat and crew members have found the new procedures to be like second nature to them.  With a reduced number of guests, clear procedures set out and diving conditions not seen for a long time due to the period of rest on the environment, the trips have been a massive success.  The reports from the SCUBA diving liveaboards have been described as ‘out of this world’ with incredible visibility and many sightings including whale sharks, schools of hammerhead sharks, Galapagos sharks, sea turtles, moray eels, silky sharks and large groups of fur seals too.  After such a long time having only dreamed of getting back out into the deep blue everyone has been so happy to be back in the waters again.

The Red Sea, Egypt has now been added to one of the destinations which has set sail, with a number of scheduled trips setting sail on the Blue Horizon.  Having been equally busy during lockdown the crew members were thrilled when the vessel received confirmation that they were successful in passing the stringent Egyptian Governments Covid-19 certification.

Most recently, the Maldives has also successfully become certified by the local Government, as being COVID-19 compliant.  They have met all the health and safety measurements to ensure the safety of guests and its crew members.  With the first trip to set sail on the 8th November everyone is very excited.

For more information please contact a member of our sales and reservations team on 01752 480 808 in the UK or +66 (0) 76 367 444 in Thailand.

  • Since inception, and continuing throughout their long history, the crews of the alliance of brands, Masterliveaboards, Siren Fleet, Blue O Two, The Junk and The Phinisi have worked hard to ensure robust safety procedures.  This allows their guests to focus on enjoying their diving - and overall liveaboard experience - in the knowledge they have done their utmost to ensure everyone’s wellbeing.  Their vision has always been to create inspirational experiences for all their guests, on all their vessels. Guest safety is at the heart of this vision.

As the COVID-19 pandemic took hold around the world, they acted swiftly to protect guests and staff.

Adapting, learning and leading by example

Whilst they believe their existing practices for hygiene and cleanliness are already industry leading, they have developed new operational protocols - with extra precautions against COVID-19 in mind. Their plans include:

    • Requiring guests to complete a pre-travel questionnaire, giving further confidence to fellow guests and crew that it is safe for customers to travel.

    • Additional training for crew in appropriate sanitation and cleaning practices with viral infections in mind. Where possible, sourcing environmentally friendly cleaning chemicals.

    • Enhanced, documented and inspected deep cleaning and sanitation of all areas of our vessels a minimum of three times a day, with special emphasis on high traffic, high contact areas. Where available, use of fogging and other devices.

    • Social distancing will be encouraged wherever possible, while maintaining the high level of guest service that they are known for. These plans include possible staggered briefings, diving activities, and mealtimes - where this is operationally feasible. Guests will be asked to regularly wash their hands, especially before all activities.

    • They hope to be able to source and provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as masks and gloves, to be worn as appropriate when onboard their vessels. This will apply to both guests and crew. Additional hand sanitizer stations will be installed throughout our vessels.

    • Diving practices such as rinse tanks for equipment, suits and masks have been reviewed, taking into account the possibility of cross-contamination.  They have also taken into consideration the provision of a towel service and rental equipment may be less available depending on the availability of suitable sanitising agents/sterile storage options.

    • They will be working hard suppliers and shore support agents to ensure logistical functions allow their vessels to operate.  For example, provisioning and fuelling will be done in a manner consistent with social distancing principles.

Operating in 14 countries worldwide, there will be some variation of procedures between vessels.  They are working hard to ensure an enjoyable vacation, in a safe and responsible manner.  With 20% off in 2021 and 10% off sailings in 2022, the alliance are offering some excellent DEMA deals.

  • (Nov 11, 2020)

In 1835 Charles Darwin visited the Galapagos Islands.  His Theory of Evolution was inspired by that visit.  Since Covid took hold across the globe, the alliance of brands - Master Liveaboards, Siren Fleet, Blue  O Two, The Junk and The Phinisi - experienced their own evolution.  The way they evolved however was very much reality, rather than a theory however.

For a long period, like many others, they were in a state of enforced hibernation.  A momentous day arrived on 5th October 2020 when their vessel in the Galapagos, Galapagos Master, started operating once again.  Their Dive Guide’s report from that trip is below.  She hasn’t stopped sailing, with very happy customers, ever since.  With discounts of up to 50% until the end of 2020 and 20% off in 2021, there has never been a better time to join Galapagos Master.

One lucky customer can join her for FREE however.  The company are running a prize draw for a liveaboard space.  Entrants need to like their Master Liveaboard page on Facebook or Instagram and comment with liked on the post.  The competition will launch on Thursday 12th November and run until the end of November.

Galapagos Master’s dive guide reports have read like the best script the BBC’s Blue Planet could have wished for.  Sightings have been unprecedented with 17 sightings of whale sharks were seen in  one day.  Add that to Hammerhead Sharks, Galapagos Sharks, School of big eye Jacks, School of Indo Pacific Bonitos, Snappers, Moray Eels, Pelican Pacific Barracudas and yellow fin Tuna – all on the same dive!

“We greeted our 10 guests at San Cristobal with perfect conditions and 16°C water temperatures - ideal for sightings.  Our cruise commenced the next day with a visit to the Island of Seymour where we saw the first of many sea lions and plenty of birds, including blue foooted boobies!  The guests loved this. This visit was followed by diving off the Island of Baltra, with 19°C water temperatures - for a check dive.

We then sailed to Darwin to the north of the islands, where we did seven dives.  Amazingly, we had 19 encounters with whale sharks!  Perhaps a record.  Not only that, but we saw a humpback whale and many many hammerhead and Galapagos sharks.  It was a real treat.

On Wolf Island we lost count of the hammerhead sharks we saw.  We also saw a fantastic school of tuna and one of eagle rays.  We moved on to Isabela where we dived at Vicente Roca Point.  There we were treated to a great variety - seahorses, turtles and bullhead sharks.  Cape Douglas on Fernandina Island came next.  The guests loved the marine iguanas - in a very calm sea.

Finally, in Cousin's Rock, we did two dives.  We were spoilt again with sea lions and eagle rays, mobulas and white fin sharks.

We ended our trip with a visit to the tortoise breeding center in Santa Cruz.  Everyone had a fantastic time.  It is GREAT to be back!"

  • M/V Blue Spirit is the embodiment of a traditional Maldivian diving liveaboard - a true divers' liveaboard. The  M/V Blue Spirit is smaller than modern liveaboards and is able to provide a more exclusive diving experience than most other vessels can offer. She reaches dive sites other vessels are unable to due to their much larger size.

Maldives diving enthusiasts will delight at her extensive range of itineraries, sailing all around the stunning atolls in the North and in the South of the Maldives. Her wooden hull has been specifically designed to optimize sailing through the waters of the Maldives, while her interior has been fitted out to heighten comfort and relaxation for guests aboard.

M/V Blue Spirit measures 26m in length with a beam of 7m. Her shallow draft means she can moor in smaller and quieter lagoons which are inaccessible to larger vessels. One of the most outstanding features of M/Y Blue Voyager is the custom-built dhoni (diving suport vessel) Blue Shadow. This brand new 19m dhoni is spacious, fast, and equipped with all the modern conveniences that divers want.
