San Salvador’s fascinating underwater topography has led to its renown as a great diving destination. It is one of the top five wall-diving destinations in the region and underwater visibility ranges between 100 and 150 feet. More than 50 sites are located on the island's lee side, reducing the chance of encountering rough seas. Most of the dive sites are walls, some named for island locales such as Cockburn Town Wall and Riding Rock Wall. Reefs and wrecks also provide rewarding diving. Some of the unusual ones include Devil's Claw and Vicky's Reef, home to stingrays and sharks; and French Bay, known for its elkhorn and staghorn coral. High Cay, Low Cay and Middle Cay are popular spots for both reef and wreck diving. You will find it quite an adventure diving in crevasses, caves and along a wall with black coral trees and sponges. Equipment, specialty dive courses and certification courses are available upon request.

Bimini is the true “Island in the Stream,” perched at the edge of a sheer underwater cliff that falls thousands of feet into the blue abyss. There is an array of experiences for both novice and advanced divers, with the best dive sites in the south. The Bimini Road (Bimini Wall) plummets a heart-thumping 4,000 feet beneath the sea. Its perfectly cut underwater steps are believed to be remnants of the road to long-lost Atlantis. Wrecks include several sunken Spanish galleons, a WWI freighter wreck, and the battered concrete hull of The Sapona. Mysterious inland blue holes sink into the limestone; in sea caverns like Little Cavern's Reef, popcorn-shaped coral heads line the sandy bottom. You can also explore magnificent reefs ranging from 18-80 feet, teeming with every kind of marine life. And, you also have dolphins in the wild, loggerhead turtles and shark sightings to stimulate you under the water.

For the 24th consecutive year the Bahamas has been named the world’s best destination for diving with mammoth marine mammals, in Scuba Diving magazine’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards.
The world’s most experienced dive travelers on the planet voted overwhelmingly for the destination that offered the most bite and the most unique experience for its big animal adventures category.
Chosen for the up-close and personal experiences that divers have experienced with hammerheads sharks, dolphins and other marine life, the Bahamas beat out the Turks & Caicos, Belize, Cayman Islands and Mexico to once again win the Caribbean and Atlantic category.
Readers fell wholeheartedly in love with the variety of curious species that call the Bahamas home, the ever-growing shark life in Nassau, and the rare sightings of wild Atlantic dolphins, which cruise between Bimini and the Little Bahama Bank.

You can enjoy some of the finest blue hole, cave and reef diving here, and more natural wrecks than any other island of The Bahamas. The Devil’s Backbone, a shallow and jagged reef, extends across the northern edge of the islands. Forests of Elkhorns, star and brain corals, are crowned by sea fans, lobsters peak from holes, and eels wind through the reef. You can also feed the fish, take a dip in the inland “Ocean Hole,” or swim through the drift dive called Current Cut. There are exceptional dive facilities, PADI-trained instructors, certification programs, and scuba equipment available for rental.

These islands are one of the most spectacular places in The Bahamas to enjoy the undersea world. Vast beds of undisturbed coral reef teem with brightly colored schools of fish. The Amberjack Reef, a patch reef, houses several types of sharks. You can explore Mystery Cave, a 400-foot-deep blue hole, dropping from 15 to 100 feet. There are also several excellent wall dives and the Austin Smith Wreck and "Thunderball Grotto" are a must-see. There is a PADI 5-Star Dive facility on Great Exuma and PADI professionals on Staniel Cay, offering the ultimate dive experience on small, personalized dive trips. Basic scuba diving and dive master courses are also available.

Cat Island has a continental shelf in the north, with a wild, untamed shoreline that offers some of the best scuba diving anywhere in the world. There are walls with a 100-200-foot drop-off and features like giant sponges and black coral bushes. You can dive a blue hole descending 80-100 feet; “The Tunnels,” a coral garden with crevices, canyons and fissures at 30 feet; or Naked Point with numerous stone crabs and small corals. The reefs off its south shore are virtually unexplored, home to species like grouper, tarpon, trigger and trumpet fish, sponges, gorgonians, Elkhorn, lettuce and brain corals, plus expanses of sea fans. An old shipwreck lies half submerged and a Spanish battleship sunk in 1898 is at 20-30 feet. While veteran divers may know their way around the ocean floor, diving lessons and guides are available from a PADI dive center to help novices experience life under the sea.

The Andros dive experience ranges from shallow water, to wreck and blue-hole dives, and dramatic wall dives. You will have a breathtaking experience going through the Andros Barrier Reef, home to over 160 species of fish and coral. The 6,000-feet-deep Tongue of the Ocean attracts many diving enthusiasts to experience the unique phenomenon of diving along the face of the Great Wall, which requires good buoyancy. Three wrecks sunk in the 1970s can be found at moderate depths of 70-80 feet. Devotees of diving, such as the late Jacques Cousteau, call the caves and caverns within the blue holes here some of the most fascinating dive sites in the world. They reveal much about the island’s prehistoric geological past and you can peer into the lair of the Lucsa (a mythical blue-hole dwelling monster) or see the holes “breathe” as water flows in and out with the tides. Experienced guides will safely lead you to all of the sites. Diver certification courses and dive packages are also available.
