Garden Island Resort is situated right on the Somosomo Strait which runs between Taveuni Island and Vanua Levu and is a mere 10-minute boat ride from the renowned Rainbow Reef; possibly Fiji's best dive destination. The strait has earned Fiji the title of "Soft Coral Capital of the World".
Many divers come to Taveuni just to witness the spectacular soft coral blooms that occur when the current is just right. The current’s sometimes more than gentle “helping hand” will guide you past some of the most wonderful and unique proliferations of soft corals in the world.
Somosomo Strait´s Rainbow Reef simply awes you with its vibrant colours as bushes of pink, white, brown or orange open and span out to capture the passing nutrients, creating the remarkable spectacle of colour that makes Taveuni scuba diving so special.
Taveuni diving however is not just about the colourful coral; these nutrient rich waters boast plenty of pelagic fish species. Expect to come across barracudas, reef sharks, manta rays and turtles. Humpback and pilot whales can also be seen from July to September.
The world famous Rainbow Reef is also home to the Great White Wall, noted in the 'Top 10 Dive Locations in the World' by U.S. Divers magazine.
There are over 25 dive sites in the Somosomo Strait where diving can, in every sense, be truly breath-taking. Our experienced dive team has intimate knowledge of these waters and selects the best dive sites daily, based on the currents and weather conditions to ensure each dive is a memorable one.
