Dr. Holden Harris

Profile

Dr. Holden Harris received his PhD at the University of Florida, where his dissertation research focused on studying capacity and strategies for managing invasive lionfish. In support of this research, Holden was awarded a Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation Scholarship in 2016 and a 3-year Graduate Research Fellowship from the National Science Foundation in 2017. Prior graduate school, Holden worked for the State of Florida as an Environmental Scientist for Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection and as a Biological Scientist for Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute. His past field experience includes research in the British West Indies, the Bahamas, the Florida Keys, coastal Georgia, North East Florida, and offshore in the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. In addition, he has worked as a commercial fisherman, dive instructor and captain for F/V Native Diver out of Jacksonville, FL. Holden holds current certifications as a US Coast Guard 100-ton Master of Vessels, AAUS Science Diver and Rebreather Diver, NASE Dive Instructor, and Emergency Medical Technician.
