DEMA Show 2018 Call for Speakers

NTP Events is soliciting proposals for speaker abstracts for DEMA Show 2018. NTP Events has been contracted by The Diving Equipment & Marketing Association (DEMA) to manage the DEMA-sponsored educational component of the Show.

Event: DEMA Show 2018, November 14 - 17, Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, NV

The annual DEMA Show, the largest trade-only event in the world for companies doing business in the scuba diving, ocean water sports and adventure/dive travel industries, attracts hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of dive and travel industry professionals from around the world. DEMA Show provides an arena in which to conduct business, network and participate in educational and training sessions. DEMA Show is produced by DEMA, The Diving Equipment and Marketing Association.

Show Dates and Hours: Wednesday, November 14 through Friday November 16 from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM and Saturday, November 17 from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Seminar Dates and Hours: Two sessions run concurrently during the following days and times. Sessions are not held on Saturday even though the show floor is open. Exact session times are subject to change.

Main Targeted Audience: Dive Industry retailers, store staff, instructors and support staff.

Speaker Specifications

  • Proposed session abstracts must be submitted using the online application in order to be considered. 
  • Limited honorariums and travel expenses will be considered. Please note: DEMA does not cover incidental charges.
  • Speakers are encouraged to submit multiple abstracts covering different topics. Speakers presenting more than one session are viewed favorably as a cost-effective option.
  • Sessions are not repeated.
  • DEMA may wish to record your session for posting on DEMA’s websites for member access.

Prior to submitting your abstracts please review the DEMA Show Presenter Policies. By submitting your abstract you are confirming that you comply with the outlined policies, which is part of the legally binding Speaker Contract.

Speaker Presentation

Speaker grants DEMA and/or its agents and contractors the exclusive rights to make audio, video, or any other type of recording now known or hereafter developed of the presentation and to transcribe the presentation and hereby grants DEMA the exclusive rights to sell or otherwise distribute such recording or transcriptions in print, audio, video and other communications media by reproduction and sale or other distribution by any and all means now known or hereafter developed. DEMA will provide Speaker one copy of any such recording and/or transcripts upon request.

Prior to submitting an abstract to be considered as a speaker for DEMA Show 2018, it is imperative to understand DEMA's professional audience and current programs.

Background Information

What is DEMA?

The Diving Equipment & Marketing Association is the non-profit trade association. Monies earned through the industry's participation in the annual DEMA Trade Show, along with sponsorships, and from DEMA Memberships, fund all of the activities and expenses of the association. Unlike for-profit organizations which typically raise money at trade or consumer shows or events and funnel it AWAY from the diving industry, DEMA channels proceeds earned TOWARD the diving industry including market and industry research, legislative issues, and disaster assistance, marketing and PR programs, and other industry efforts, all for the benefit of DEMA members.

DEMA has Members in five different industry stakeholder categories as well as associated members (businesses whose income is not primarily derived from doing business in the diving industry), including:

  • Manufacturers, Distributors and Sales Representatives of Dive Equipment Manufacturers or Distributors
  • Diver Certification and Training Agencies, and Field/Sales Representatives of Training Organizations
  • Dive Publishing, Media, Dive Industry Consulting, Associations & Non-Retail Service Providers
  • Retail Distribution of Diving Goods & Services
  • Dive Travel or Resorts
  • Associate Member

DEMA has conducted extensive marketing research to understand the optimal active diver with the goal of obtaining similar new customers. Most current ACTIVE divers are in the age range of 38 to 53, affluent, willing and able to travel to dive and make equipment and travel purchases. However, DEMA also understands the need for bringing in younger, less affluent customers to grow the industry for the future, and in the current worldwide economic situation, understands the potential growth of recreational diving as one aspect of stay-close-to-home vacations and weekend activities. Both travel and local diving are critical to the growth of the sport.

DEMA currently has advertising and demographic/psychographic marketing programs exclusively for the use of its members. The consumer marketing program is called Go Dive Now and includes social media advertising for Members as well as videos, images and ad templates which can be customized for the member's business. GoDiveNow.com hosts a Local Dive Store Finder as well as a Dive Vacation Finder to help consumers locate a provider nearest them. Go Dive Now Partners and DEMA Members are provided with upgraded listings on the site. DEMA also has access to a sophisticated demographic analysis system provided by The Gadberry Group. Speakers who can link their topic matter and objectives for their sessions to DEMA's Current Programs and Initiatives are preferred.

DEMA Show 2018 Educational Program

You are invited to submit one or more educational proposals for DEMA Show 2018. In order to be considered as a speaker, your submission must include the first four ITEMS:

  1. A session description
  2. An outline of your presentation
  3. Two references who have asked/hired you to speak/conduct a seminar for their organization
  4. A list of outcomes (or educational objectives) – Please specifically answer the question, “What will the audience be able to do after the session?”
  5. Include a description of how and by what means the presentation will engage the audience and encourage participation-audience engagement is a must.
  6. If possible submit a video link to a previous presentation.
